I came to understand it personally, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-weight: normal;\">I have navigated the demands of Fortune 50 organizations in enterprise HR leadership, held operational roles in academic and manufacturing environments, raised a family, pursued higher education, and partnered with my husband in building a lasting local small business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-weight: normal;\">For years, I believed being strong meant carrying it all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-weight: normal;\">I could manage the competing priorities, remember what needed to happen, anticipate what might go wrong, and keep things moving at work and at home. Because I <em>could<\/em> carry so much, it was easy to assume that I <em>should<\/em>.\u00a0Until I began to understand the cost.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-weight: normal;\">What changed wasn\u2019t my ambition or my commitment to the people and work that mattered to me. What changed was how I defined strength.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-weight: normal;\">With the support of my husband, family, trusted friends, professionals, and advisors, I began building a stronger architecture of support around my life. I learned that leadership didn&#8217;t require my constant attention to everything\u2014and that asking for, receiving, and designing the right support wasn&#8217;t a retreat from strength.
